About Us

Hello.

This is Wada from furnya.

Thank you for finding furnya among the many brands available!

Before you consider our products, we wanted you to know our story and our thoughts about the brand.

It's a little long, but I hope you'll enjoy reading it when you have the time.

Cardboard furniture venture encounters cat challenges.

Kamikagu, the company that operates the furnya brand, was originally a venture company that made interior decor from cardboard.

When we first started, cardboard beds were being used in the Olympic Village, and the option of combining cardboard with furniture was gradually becoming more common (although this caused some controversy when some of the beds broke).

While studying architecture in graduate school, I had the idea that "Isn't it possible to create more stylish and user-friendly interior decor using cardboard?" and so I founded Kamikagu.

Thankfully, we received many different offers, and we tried our hand at a variety of things, including producing fixtures for events and stores.

We are proud to have taken on various challenges to create interior designs that make people think, "Is this made of cardboard?!"

On the other hand, the combination of cardboard and furniture is not very familiar, and we have come to realize the challenges of spreading the idea.

How is the water resistance?
How durable is it?
How long can it be used?

As we received various questions, we were faced with many situations where we were unable to provide any evidence as a start-up company that had just started, and where it was difficult to say anything other than that you would understand if you tried it.Without any set quality standards or construction methods, it took a lot of time to repeatedly establish and adjust the fine details of the technology to ensure customer satisfaction.

I wonder who would be most interested in combining cardboard and interior design. I wonder what kind of people it would be able to deliver a lot of value to.

While I was continuing my activities with these thoughts in mind, I met Dr. Nyantosu , the veterinarian supervising Cat Cellar.

Meeting Veterinarian Nyantosu

I met Nyantosu Sensei by chance, before I even realized he had a large number of followers.

He listened to our presentation about Kamikagu's business and seemed interested, saying, "I'd love for you to make some cardboard products that are great for interior decoration for cats. I'm sure a lot of people would be delighted."

That's the kind of feedback I received.

Upon investigation, we discovered that scratching posts, which are made by gluing together cardboard, are found in most homes with cats, and that there is a greater demand for them than we had imagined.

To be honest, as someone who has worked on cardboard furniture, when I looked at existing cardboard scratching products, I felt that there was room for improvement, as they did not provide sufficient explanation of the cardboard material and lacked design.

Isn't this exactly what society needs us at Kamikagu to do?

With this in mind, we began planning, with the cooperation of Nyantosu Sensei, a product that would double as interior decor and scratching post for cats. This is how the Cat Cellar, a best-selling product, was born.

The birth of the Cat Cellar/furnya brand

Aiming to create an unprecedented product, the planning and production of Cat Cellar was a series of challenges.

We make prototypes, give them to cats, have them use them, and then continue to improve the size and specifications.

At first, we were feeling our way around with the size and joint specifications...
We were particular about creating a removable structure, so we came up with various ideas for how to create the joints and how to make the structure work, and we compared and improved them until late at night every day.

Then the final prototype was completed, and the day came when the product photos were taken at @soratooreo 's home.
This was the first time a customer (and their cat) would use it, so I was nervous that they might not be interested at all.

From the moment they entered the room, Oreo and Sora took turns sharpening their claws on the Cat Cellar, relaxing inside, and lying down on it, all with great pleasure. Seeing them like that brought tears to my eyes. At the same time, it renewed my desire to share this product with as many people as possible.

We were able to take some wonderful product photos, and when the crowdfunding campaign began, we achieved a success rate of 1500%, far exceeding our original expectations. I remember being truly moved, thinking, "So many people want this product!"

After that, we released the Cat Cellar mini for people who found the Cat Cellar too large or too expensive to fit in their home, and we continue to offer a wide range of products in the future.

Commitment to the furnya brand

The year is 2025. I have made a big decision.

While maintaining their previous approach of combining cardboard with interior design, they have decided to discontinue sales of chairs, tables, etc. and fully commit to selling the furnya brand and Cat Cellar.

Thankfully, Cat Cellar's sales have been steadily increasing, and as a result, there have been more and more occasions where we are unable to keep up with production if we are only making products by hand. In order to deliver better products to our customers more quickly, we felt that we needed to devote all our efforts to the Furnya brand.

I myself have been comforted and encouraged by the many cats who use Cat Cellar. Above all, I have come to love cats. From now on, I would like to devote my whole heart and soul to creating even better products for cats and the customers who live with them.

The thoughts behind the brand name

furnya is

furniture + nya (cat)

It is a coined word.

The name was chosen with an emphasis on being familiar and easy to pronounce for customers who pick up the product.

Interior design that is pleasing to both cats and people, and allows cats and people to live together.

It is both "human furniture" for people and "cat furniture" for cats.

The name was chosen with the hope that we will continue to create items that can be used and loved for a long time.

furnya 's four principles

#1

High-quality interior standards

Our goal is to create "interior quality" products that people will also enjoy.

To give a simple example, we use wood for the surface and high-strength cardboard, and while we expect wear and tear, we are particular about maintaining the beauty of our products as much as possible.

Of course, from a business perspective, it may be better for customers to replace their products frequently, but we want to create better products and make it important for customers to use our products for a long time, develop an attachment to the brand, and believe that this will also lead to the sustainability that we originally envisioned with cardboard furniture.

We would like to focus on creating products that can be used for a long time as interior décor, rather than consumable items such as scratching posts and cat supplies.

#2

Living with cats, mainly

However, when it comes to scratching products, the main focus is always on the cat.

We do our best to make the space as comfortable as possible for your cat.

At Cat Cellar, we are particular about designing curves that cats will love and spaces that they will want to stay in. We also don't just use hard cardboard as a material, but select materials that are strong enough to be comfortable to use on.

We will continue to strive to create products that not only look good as interior décor, but are also sure to please the cats that are the star of the show.

#3

Commitment to manufacturing

Cat Cellar is made in Japan, and most of it is made in our own small factory in Sumida Ward, Tokyo.

Most of the cat scratching products on the market are imported from overseas countries such as China and Vietnam.

The quality of cardboard is determined by the quality of the paper. In China and Vietnam, the base cardboard used for cardboard is often made from a highly recycled (brittle) material. This means that it produces abrasive dust and wears out quickly.

We not only use high-quality, high-strength cardboard,

Also, by sticking to domestically produced products, there is much less risk of moisture absorption or insects getting in during transportation.

We strive to reduce costs by manufacturing as much as possible in-house and by being creative, in order to create products that can be delivered to our customers.

lastly

I personally want to be the person in the company and the brand who listens to what our customers have to say more than anyone else.

We would be happy to hear from you not only when you are considering purchasing, but also about any concerns you may have regarding scratching posts, interior design, or any concerns you may have after purchasing.

Feel free to message me anytime, whether it's via LINE or Instagram DM.

Kamikagu Co., Ltd. is now 100% committed to the Furnya brand, and all of our staff are working hard to create each product carefully, one by one, for our customers and for their cats. However, we are still unable to produce in large quantities, so we understand that there may be times when you have to wait. However , we will continue to do our best to make our products enjoyable for as many people as possible.

We look forward to your continued support of Furnya.
