Hello.
This is Wada from furnya.
Thank you for finding furnya among the many brands available!
Before you consider our products, we wanted you to know our story and our thoughts about the brand.
It's a little long, but I hope you'll enjoy reading it when you have the time.
Cardboard furniture venture encounters cat challenges.
Kamikagu, the company that operates the furnya brand, was originally a venture company that made interior decor from cardboard.
When we first started, cardboard beds were being used in the Olympic Village, and the option of combining cardboard with furniture was gradually becoming more common (although this caused some controversy when some of the beds broke).
While studying architecture in graduate school, I had the idea that "Isn't it possible to create more stylish and user-friendly interior decor using cardboard?" and so I founded Kamikagu.

On the other hand, the combination of cardboard and furniture is not very familiar, and we have come to realize the challenges of spreading the idea.
How is the water resistance?
How durable is it?
How long can it be used?
As we received various questions, we were faced with many situations where we were unable to provide any evidence as a start-up company that had just started, and where it was difficult to say anything other than that you would understand if you tried it.Without any set quality standards or construction methods, it took a lot of time to repeatedly establish and adjust the fine details of the technology to ensure customer satisfaction.
I wonder who would be most interested in combining cardboard and interior design. I wonder what kind of people it would be able to deliver a lot of value to.
While I was continuing my activities with these thoughts in mind, I met Dr. Nyantosu , the veterinarian supervising Cat Cellar.
Meeting Veterinarian Nyantosu
I met Nyantosu Sensei by chance, before I even realized he had a large number of followers.
He listened to our presentation about Kamikagu's business and seemed interested, saying, "I'd love for you to make some cardboard products that are great for interior decoration for cats. I'm sure a lot of people would be delighted."
That's the kind of feedback I received.
Upon investigation, we discovered that scratching posts, which are made by gluing together cardboard, are found in most homes with cats, and that there is a greater demand for them than we had imagined.
To be honest, as someone who has worked on cardboard furniture, when I looked at existing cardboard scratching products, I felt that there was room for improvement, as they did not provide sufficient explanation of the cardboard material and lacked design.
Isn't this exactly what society needs us at Kamikagu to do?
With this in mind, we began planning, with the cooperation of Nyantosu Sensei, a product that would double as interior decor and scratching post for cats. This is how the Cat Cellar, a best-selling product, was born.
The birth of the Cat Cellar/furnya brand

At first, we were feeling our way around with the size and joint specifications...

Commitment to the furnya brand
The thoughts behind the brand name

furnya is
furniture + nya (cat)
It is a coined word.
The name was chosen with an emphasis on being familiar and easy to pronounce for customers who pick up the product.
Interior design that is pleasing to both cats and people, and allows cats and people to live together.
It is both "human furniture" for people and "cat furniture" for cats.
The name was chosen with the hope that we will continue to create items that can be used and loved for a long time.
furnya 's four principles
#1
High-quality interior standards
Our goal is to create "interior quality" products that people will also enjoy.
To give a simple example, we use wood for the surface and high-strength cardboard, and while we expect wear and tear, we are particular about maintaining the beauty of our products as much as possible.
Of course, from a business perspective, it may be better for customers to replace their products frequently, but we want to create better products and make it important for customers to use our products for a long time, develop an attachment to the brand, and believe that this will also lead to the sustainability that we originally envisioned with cardboard furniture.
We would like to focus on creating products that can be used for a long time as interior décor, rather than consumable items such as scratching posts and cat supplies.
